Using the WWW

There's a lot of stuff out there on the WWW! There's a lot of really good stuff and some not-so-good stuff. For your assignment on some kind of mystery you will definitely find all different kinds of explanations for strange or unsolved mysteries that have happened over the years.

Use the criteria below to decide if you have found a website with credible information:

  • Who or what organization sponsors the website? Can you find a page called "About us" or similar?

  • Who wrote the information and what is their authority to write on the topic? Do they tell you their name, education, etc.?

  • What is the purpose of the website? Education? Is it a blog? Are there lots of advertisements? Is the site biased?

  • Think about what you know from your previous knowledge on the topic. Is the information in this website true?

  • How complete is the information and where did the website get the information from? Are sources listed?

  • How current is the information?
