Downloading eBooks: Home

Introduction

JCC Library subscribes to a number of eBook collections from different providers. Each provider is a little different. This guide gives instructions on downloading eBooks.

You may download up to 10 entire documents at a time using Adobe Digital Editions, a free software program for Windows and Mac.

First download Adobe Digital Editions. Follow the instructions for installation and activation. To download an entire document to your computer:

 

  • Click on the Download button in the search results or QuickView. You may be prompted to sign in. You don’t need to sign in but if you did not start by finding the book in ebrary (i.e., you found the ebook in CannonCat or Search Almost Everything) you will need to search for the title once you are in the ebrary database.

 

  • Select the option to Download the entire document. Click OK.

 

  • Click on the Full Download icon (furthest to left) on upper menu bar.

 

  • Choose whether to open with Adobe Digital Editions or save file to open later. Click OK.

 

The eBook will remain accessible for 14 days.

 

 

Springer

Springer:

 

Springer utilizes pdfs as their platform. Chapters and entire books can be downloaded in pdf form. You need to have Adobe Acrobat or another pdf reader on your computer or device.

There is no limit on how long you can keep a Springer pdf and no limit on printing. Use the usual pdf tools to find a word (Ctrl + F or Find under Edit on upper left.) and to print (Ctrl + P or Print under File).

 

EBSCO Academic

EBSCO EBook Academic Collection:

First download Adobe Digital Editions. Follow the instructions for installation and activation.

 

  • Once you have found an ebook you want to download click on Download This eBook (Offline) on the left.
  •  EBSCOhost will ask you to login or create an EBSCOhost account. You must have a separate EBSCOhost account to download the book.
  • Once you are logged in you can download the book. You can chose pdf or Adobe Digital Editions format. You can choose to checkout for up to 7 days.

You will need Adobe Digital Editions to view the book offline regardless of the format you choose.

 

 

SUNY Press eBooks

SUNY Press EBook Collection:

 

SUNY Press books are in pdf format. The reader just has to have Adobe Acrobat or another pdf reader on their computer or device. There is no limit on how long you can keep a SUNY Press  pdf and no limit on printing. Use the usual pdf tools to find a word (Ctrl + F or Find under Edit on upper left.) and to print (Ctrl + P or Print under File).

 

Incredibly Easy Nursing eBooks

Incredibly Easy Nursing eBooks:

 

These books are not downloadable. They must be used while connected to the Internet on a computer or device. You can print segments with accompanying graphics using the printer icon that appears by each segment.

 

 

STAT!Ref Nursing eBooks

STAT!Ref Nursing eBooks:

 

These books are not downloadable. They must be used  while connected to the Internet on a computer or device. Pages and graphics can be printed.

 

Gale Virtual Reference Library

Gale Virtual Reference Library:

Individual sections or chapters may be downloaded in pdf or html format, or saved to Google Drive. Sections may also be printed using the Tools menu on the right.

 

Credo Reference

Credo Reference:

You can download sections or chapters using the print function. It will allow you to choose to open in Adobe Acrobat. Then you can save the section as a pdf.
