Information Cycle Tutorial

A Cycle of Revolving Research

When first learning about a topic you can start and move to any point in the research cycle depending on the type of information you need. Points in the research cycle include:

  • Basic facts and overview of the topic, such as you would find in reference materials
  • Interviews and details from the time of the event and editorials or opinion based analysis, such as you would find in newspapers or magazines.
  • Background and in-depth information, such as you would find in books.
  • Scholarly research and analysis, such as you would find in academic articles.
